“In recent years, bilateral ties between Sri Lanka and China have grown even stronger. During my visit to China in 2013, our two countries agreed to elevate our relationship to one of strategic cooperation, which I’m sure will bring benefits to both our peoples. The visit by President Xi last year was historical since he was the first Chinese President to visit Sri Lanka in 28 years,” he said.. (Colombo Gazette) Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa says he hopes the links between China and Sri Lanka remain strong in the years to come.In a statement released today to mark China’s founding day, Rajapaksa recalled that Sri Lanka and China have shared strong and extremely friendly relations for many centuries. He said that China’s contributions to Sri Lanka’s development have been evident throughout time adding that not only recent projects but older ones such as the Supreme Court Complex and the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) have contributed immensely.
