first_imgMichael Murphy has lauded Karl Lacey for his sensational performance for Donegal in their Ulster SFC quarter-final win over local rivals Derry. Michael Murphy praised the performance of Karl Lacey against Derry on Sunday, and said the Four Masters man is absolutely vital to Donegal. The Donegal captain described Lacey’s performance as ‘phenomenal’ and believes he has overcome the injuries that dogged his 2013 campaign.Lacey is now studying in Limerick, but has started this season well, and will hope he has put his injury woes behind him. Last season his form was blighted, due to a number of injuries, he also went under the surgeon’s knife on two separate occasions.Murphy said, “Karl was phenomenal, he’s a four-time All Star and a Footballer of the Year.“You don’t come across one of those every day.“The amount of work that he has put in, he put it in last year and he just could not get over the line in terms of game-time. “He is a vital, vital cog for us, he is travelling up and down from Limerick and he is rarely misses a training session, he added.Murphy insists Donegal will not get carried away with yesterday’s victory and are already focusing their attentions on next month’s Ulster semi-final clash with either Antrim or Fermanagh.Murphy said, “We had a big win in the first round of the championship last year, but one win doesn’t make a summer.“We’ll return to training on Tuesday, and start preparing for a semi-final in four weeks time.“It’s great to get the win, Derry were going well and are a quality side, so we’ll take huge confidence from it, but as I said we’ll not get too carried away with it.
