Kohli went past West Indies legend Vivian Richards who had got to the 50-win mark in 70 matches.West Indies great Clive Llyod holds the record for the fastest captain to 50 wins in ODIs as he got there in just 63 matches. Australia’s World Cup-winning skipper Ricky Ponting is also joint topper of the elite list. Late South Africa captain Hanse Cronje is second on the list after having reached the milestone in just 68 matches.Virat Kohli couldn’t have asked for a better occasion to achieve the feat as India romped to a 6-wicket win over South Africa in their World Cup 2019 campaign opener on Wednesday. While Rohit Sharma hit a well-paced hundred to give India the control during their 228-run chase, Jasprit Bumrah and Yuzvendra Chahal were brilliant with the ball, picking up 6 wickets between them.Kohli came up with attacking plans as he picked both the wrist-spinners in the playing XI and put pressure on South Africa with three slips when Jasprit Bumrah was breathing fire after South Africa opted to bat.Kohli came up with some smart bowling changes and was pumped up on the field as he kept marshaling his troops with a lot of energy in their first match of World Cup 2019.advertisementProfessional performance; Kohli proud of India’s winSpeaking after the win, Kohl said India had come up with a complete performance and that he is happy to begin the World Cup campaign with a win.”The wait was very long and then you get a game like this where it was challenging throughout. From our point of view, it was important to start on the right note. We might not have had the run rate, but if you look at how the game went and how the pitch behaved, it was challenging,” Kohli said.Having begun his maiden World Cup campaign as captain with a win, Kohli would want to lay down an early marker with a good show against Australia when they take on the defending champions at The Oval in London on Sunday. Also Read | World Cup 2019: Rohit Sharma, Yuzvendra Chahal power India to opening win over South AfricaAlso Read | World Cup 2019: Ziva Dhoni in the house as MS Dhoni joins forces with Rohit to beat South AfricaAlso SeeFor sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to Like us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter for Sports news, scores and updates.Get real-time alerts and all the news on your phone with the all-new India Today app. Download from Post your comment Do You Like This Story?
